Dibs85
Hi chaps, Quick question from a novice shotgunner, I have managed to acquire a bolt action webley and Scott 410 for £20. I'm thinking of bunny bashing at night with it. How easy is it to fit a silencer to (if even possible)? Is it just a case of threading the end and buying a generic silencer to screw on. Or is there something more specific to shotgun silencers? Cheers
Glenlivet
I got one of these second hand, they are very effective. http://www.saddleryandgunroom.co.uk/Gunroom/SG_Hushpower.htm The only problem I had was that the barrel of my Grange tapers and the mod was a VERY tight fit. Perfect on my Norica. Edited August 4, 2016 by Glenlivet
robbiep
I've got the detachable Saddlery and Gunroom mod fitted on my W+S 410. Works perfectly. Had to be the detachable because otherwise the gun and mod was too long for the cabinet !
Dibs85
Does it reduce noise significantly?
Glenlivet
Does it reduce noise significantly?Oh yes, especially if you use subsonic cartridges. I don't but still get a significant reduction in noise, a bit like a spring air rifle.
robbiep
The noise levels are hugely reduced, yes. Eley Fourlong cartridges are the quietest, but they've also been tested by others and found to be very slow. Other cartridges are also a lot quieter through the husher too. Do be aware that, if you've got the standard b/a gun then you can't use any dedicated subsonic shells, as your gun is a 2 1/2 inch chamber, and all the 'official' subsonic shells are 3 inch. The 'Sportsman' variant which is a 3 shot bolt action gun is a 3 inch chamber though.
Dibs85
Thanks. no mine is a 2 1/2 inch. Sounds worth it though.

The problem for me with the Fourlongs (VERY quiet) wasn't the speed but that they're only 9g load and didn't pattern well in the Grange. Didn't really do a clean job with squirrels unless they were very close
robbiep
The Fourlongs are 12.5g. The 2" 'Fourten' are 9g. I think !

I know they were a lighter load than the Lyalvales I'm using now.
