winnie&bezza
Morning all. I'm going to be looking after a friend of mines investarm hushpower 20g as he's going away for sometime. Never used or heard one be fired so what is the noise level equivalent to? He's also got some sub sonic cartridges that he's chucking in. ElvisThePelvis
he's going away for some time Presuming it's sawn off, probably pretty loud! In all seriousness I looked at 12. 20. and .410, ended up buying .410, much quieter.

Interesting to see what it's like.
ElvisThePelvis
To get an accurate view you need someone to shoot it when you are 30 yards away (ideally not at you) they are quieter than you realise at that distance, they don't sound especially quiet to the user. Guest cookoff013
Nb, low gas volume subsonics are really quiet. It's a must really.

So around fields that hold cattle and horses and the fact I would only being shooting skywards then is it quiet enough for that? Nb, low gas volume subsonics are really quiet. It's a must really. What is the their performances compared to super sonics?
spready
I've got one and use gamebore traditional game 28g 6s and to be honest can't tell the difference between them and the higher priced subsonic cartridges, even had a friend stand a distanc away and unable to tell the difference. Very good guns tho
Guest cookoff013
What is the their performances compared to super sonics? believe it or not you can have loud subsonics. it is when the shot leaves the barrel at 1000fps and the gas volume is still going to break the sound barrier. i good tuned up subsonic should have a small amount of very efficient powder. it helps the whole system (hushpower baffles and junk) deal with all that gas so it doesnt produce the bang. that and the homeloaders shotsize of choice. is an unbeatable package. So basically you need to homeload to get best results?
ElvisThePelvis
So basically you need to homeload to get best results? I think so, yes, although I'm no reloader I have noticed even in .410 some cartridges are actually quite loud. But it's free! Don't knock it! I bought my .410 for exactly that, not startling the horses ( or shooting close to houses) but if you are shooting towards a background, i.e. Pigeons flying across a wood, you would be surprised how loud the echo can be. Great in some circumstances, not in all, but if it's free that's great. Would I buy another one? Possibly, the have the advantage for bunnies of not needing to worry about ricochet compared to .22lr but it is quite limited in use and chews up a space in the cabinet. Guest cookoff013
the one bug i have is that it is automaticly assumed that .410 is quieter... while there are subs available, a good subsonic load is 32g of lead in 12gauge. there are tons of data to get working on. titewad, reddot, vectan and a few other powders to name but a few. the deal is equilibration and efficiency of burn
