new to the flock
I have a piece of property that I manage rabbits on under agriculture protection. It is the same property that I do the rat trapping on and is to protect a tree plantation and gardens. Now there are a lot of very nice mowed areas through the seedling areas, and open rough grounds. My plan is to set my net up on the mowed pathways and work the rough with the dog towards the net. As the areas are fairly thick with cover and as our rabbits do not really dig burrows I am going to be using Cody to help me push the bunnies into the net. If I pick out any well defined runs while setting up I plan on covering these with purse nets across them. Now since Cody is going to be working towards and around the net, I figured we should spend some time working on net manners, and behaviour, and the ins and outs. So I stretched the long net out on some open field...just been planted in corn, come on fall goose season .......to make things alittle more interesting I made sure that the net was not straight. This way Cody had to figure out to follow the net and not just run a straight line. We started out on lead just heeling along the net and doing some jumps over and back, aswell as other obediance to get use to working around and over net. Once I was happy with this I let Cody off lead and we worked the same routines off lead. A couple of sit stays: working over the net: Recall along the net: Drop stay end of net: Recall end to end: Drop stay while packing up: Next step will be out in the pasture field in about 8 inches of cover. lurcherboy
Cody looks bored Dan, couldn't you drum up some entertainment for him ? How fast can you drop and pick up the net now as you may be usefull if they let you back in the UK? LB
