Woodlander
Just fitted a Zeiss V8 to my Sako 85. Used Tier One 2 piece Picatinny rails and Zeiss(Tier One)36mm rings. Took a while to get on paper as it was shooting v low and now I have it zeroed only have 67 clicks of elevation out of a possible 100,have set the zero stop correctly, just runs out of clicks. Am I overlooking something? Thanks. I know Sako dovetails have a certain amount of adjustment for windage, depending on how far forward the mounts are,but surely they're not elevation adjustable as well? fieldwanderer
I didn't know the factory rail had any adjustment? I don't think you've missed anything, if you feel 67 clicks won't be enough, I think you're probably into either packing the rear mount a little or (preferable) getting a rail that does the same - they slope very slightly. Dougy
What's it going on calibre wise ? Just thinking if you were intending on long range stuff I would have thought a raised rail would have been a better option. 223 Edited December 4, 2016 by Dougy
Woodlander
It's the V8 4.8-35. It was 2nd hand so,I assume it was zeroed on the previous rifle and on mine was way off the paper,so again assume it has something to do with my mounting. It's on a .204,so not super long range, but I think with the full 100 clicks, which should be available after setting the zero stop,it's only good for about 600 yards, should get 450 out of it,but would still like the full 100 clicks. I can move the front mount onto the next notch on the rail and see if that makes a difference.
Woodlander
I'd be happy with just a single rotation! I'll speak to Tier One tomorrow and see if they have any ideas. Fister, can the zero stop pin be replaced once it's been removed,or is it a permanent fix and how much extra elevation was available with the pin removed? Woodlander
Don't worry about my cornflakes, I knew its limits and the full 100 clicks would be all I needed, for now, what was more important was the lens quality, high mag and ability to dial. I knew the turrets were not the best and if it had been available in SFP,I'd have opted for the IOR Crusader, despite its looks. But,I had assumed, that once zeroed I'd still have 100 clicks and as the zero stop pin is removable, perhaps a little more,I'd not planned to shoot out to 1000yds, having enough trouble at 300 I'll speak to Zeiss,I'm having the wind age turret fitted and perhaps it's possible to adjust the elevation at the same time. With all its shortcomings,it's still a lovely scope. Thanks.
fieldwanderer
I'm sure there's 10 and 20moa rails out there, can't remember the manufacturer's name though. Redfield rings a bell, was about £120 though - I spent hours trying to find a way around buying optilock as I felt it was a bit of a "con". Bewsher500
I have a 40 MOA Inclined system on my optilocks IMO its a perfect solution as the ring inserts allow custom incline without any lateral tube torque I machined a matching sized spacer to fit between base and ring forget the depth but its about 1.2mm allows me to theoretically shoot my sightron out to 1750yds on the 300wm

fieldwanderer
They dont make them in 36mm anyway and even if they did, you need the polymer rose jointed ones to enable them to to shimmed for elevation and they dont dother doing that on the 34's even I'm talking about a rail, not rings. You'd need weaver/picatinny rings to suit the scope but, because they're on a rail, they'd be in line with each other.
