Ballie
Hi guys, Just got my new Annie 1517 .17 hmr it has a 18" factory threaded barrel but I have never seen a barrel like this before (my old 1517 wasn't like this) the crown/end of the barrel is recessed about 1/2" down from the end of the thread!!! Its hard to explain but I will try and attach a photo tomorrow, has anyone else seen this on the new Annies? and does anyone know why Anschutz are doing this? Dead-Eyed Duck
I bought mine 12 months ago and it was (is) exactly as you describe. Perhaps it is done to prevent accidental damage to the crown, which would completely nacker up the accuracy? Don
fieldwanderer
As though the whole end of the barrell's been counter-sunk? It's been done quite a bit with target rifle barells lately (especially stainless replacements) I don't really know why it's done, try looking at border barrells's web site, it might explain. When I first saw one, The guy was showing my coach it, can't remember what was said but the pattern in the soot in the "crown" looked interesting I guess someone's worked out it's better as a crown, from an engineers point of view it's simpler and as you say - the end of the bore's protected. (though I wouldn't want to dent the edge of the "countersunk" part B) )
njc110381
Not really the same gun, but my BSA Meteor air rifle was like that. It keeps the crown safe, so a good idea I feel
Oly
Like said above if it's countersunk it's to protect the crown. Same as my .22lr which has a match grade barrel & action. Don't worry, it's all good!!
