m greeny
I was not going to bother today as it was a 9.5 metre tide and no wind forecast so i said to the wife i would have the day off..........Well i lasted till lunch time before temptation got the better of me and i was off. I got to the marsh bang on high water so after a detour round the main gutters to get to my chosen spot i chucked half a dozen decoys out and waited. It was well over an hour before i seen my first duck and it just landed on the tide and drifted off. Its going to be one of them days i thought as this place had been shot only 2 days previous. Then a single drake pintail came but drifted well wide but a couple of peeps on the whistle and in it came and fell to my first shot. A few minutes later and 4 birds came past on the edge of range and a hen pintail this time fell to my shot. Ten minutes or so passed and another single drake pintail this time came straight to the decoys and again fell in the water to be retrieved out of the very strong ebb tide by the nutty spaniel and that was my last shot even though there was plenty of birds moving they were all giving me a very wide berth and landing out on the tide waiting for the first mud to be revealed.
