Big Mat
I've often thought the same. My home loads would be more than capable on most of the game I shoot, but not really suited to a game gun, so an auto would be the way forwards. It would put an end to the odd high bird day I have a year though. "Let's hope it never happens" is worth repeating. For the little game i shoot a season now, i use steel in a 20 bore, 28 gram 4s. Seems to do a nice job at all ranges. Admittedly it's out of a modern over/under but i'd have though 28 gram would be easily do able out of older guns

Big Mat
28gr of steek in cal 20? Magnums? 3" case, Lil gun powder, it is actually a very nice shooting cartridges, not too much recoil. The only time I shoot game, there is chance of a duck on most drives so it's nice to not have to swap cartridges around. For 100 or so shots a season it is not too expensive either, actually a little cheaper then premium lead cartridges
