hellier0437
I have a b/a 9mm shotgun. i was just wondering whether there are any benchmarks that you can measure it against to see whether a particular load would be good enought for rats (eg they should go through a can, a board, a bottle etc...), i ask because i have some cartridges with very small shot and would like to know whether i could use them for rats at 10 yds thanks for any help
duster
I had a Webley 9mm a few years back, to be honest it wasn't really up to the job of killing rats, even at close range. I got rid of mine after a couple of rats just got up and ran away after being shot. The only cartridges I could get were No10's, which were a bit small in my opinion. If possible, you'd be better off with a .410 and 2" carts if you don't require too much power. Try shooting at some thin plywood or hardboard to test penetration, I would recommend safety glasses if you do - those little balls of shot can ricochet badly. hellier0437
yeah, that's what i found, i have been using the .410 but it's a bit loud so i cant shoot that many. i managed to get some 7.5's but was just wondering whether i could use the smaller shot as well (they came with the gun) thanks
MC
A 9mm shotgun will be effective on rats out to about 20yds, Any more than that and their squealing will scare the rest away.
codling99
ive got a 9mm ,and used it on rats at 10 m,and it knocks um *******.you need bigger shot .
duster
I think shot size was where I was going wrong. My local place could only get No10's, and according to the sod behind the counter, that was all that was available. Going to have to keep my eyes open for another 9mm now. callofduty
if you want to use a small caliber shotgun for rats i would say use .
carbarten77
They are great tools for in barns where a .410 can be too much gun. You can get some 9mm ammo with bigger shot or maybe try loading your own.
beatingisbest
i believe that 9mm is a rimmy so reloading is not possible
codling99
most 9mm carts just got a plastic or cardboard top on them, take it off ,empty and put bigger shot in.carefully and put card back on.
