Good evening all.

This is my first post and would be thankful of any advice. I am 29yo living in London, I grew up in Shropshire and shot airrifles and shotguns(not mine) from an early age, moved to London for work 10years ago and all my shooting went out the window apart from the odd clay shooting day.

Bought my own home in September 06 and decided to get back into my field sports, did some research on the web and booked myself 3days stalking, really enjoyed it and have been on 4 more trips since.

After my last outing on 5th April decided to sit my DSC1 which I did and passed on 26thApril. I have since sent in a coterminous application 3 weeks ago, I have letters for stalking land and invitations to stalk, a completely clean record and I wondered what you chaps think my chances are?

apart from the SGCI have applied for a 22lr(I have land for this also),6.5x55 and a 270win all with mods.

:good:?

As long as you have GOOD REASON to possess all of those firearms and you have an unblemished record then the Police will have no grounds to refuse you. One question remains however, why would you want a 6.5 x 55 and a .270? you will have to justify having both.

Good luck.

You should have no problems whatsoever with your application. Your post shows that you are able to tick all the boxes so to speak, so as I said I would be most surprised if you had any problems. Are you a member of BASC or the BDS ? if so and you did have any problems you would be able to get them on the case.

I have two stalking rifles (one for Red & Sika) so that should not be a problem.

Good luck

Thanks for the reply!

My intention was to apply for a 270win only, as it was the calibre I had used the most and felt confident with.

I then called my firearms team to check some application issues and the person I spoke to reccomended I add an additional rifle I may want in the future to save time and money in changing my certificate later on.

I have shot muntjac, roe and a fox with a 6.5x55 and did my dsc with one, I found it to be a very smooth calibre so put it on the application to use for deer stalking/Fox control.

Do you think I will have a problem justifying both? :good:

Cheers Charlie.

I am a BASC member, I think it's an important organisation to support.

I thought the 6.5 would be a good rifle for roe and muntjac and occassional fox ,the 270win for bigger red deer and fallow bucks further down the line. What do you think?, any advice greatly recieved!

Also should I buy a cabinet before he comes or wait?

Thats the old 'chicken and egg' scenario, if you haven't got a cabinet it will involve a second home visit to check you're security once you've got one, if you go to the expense of buying one and theres a hick-up with the application you've got a surplus cabinet that you might lose a bit of money selling on.

I would fix the cabinet before the feo comes, it will save a subsequent visit and therefore save time.

Caliber choice is a personal thing and everyone has their own idea of what is best. I have a Tikka 6.5x55 which I love and now use for everything. My .243 now only gets used for lamping but I fancy a 204 for foxing and if I do go for one I think I shall change the .243 for a 7.08 (in preference to a .270) .

Also worth a note, you should be able to get fox as a separate condition with the 6.5x55 as opposed to fox whilst stalking.

Remember that if you change your mind on the caliber front you can always change what you have applied for during your feo interview.

I think I'm gonna get the cabinet and fix it before he comes, I will need it for shotgun anyway besides any fac weapons.

There is only one suitable location so it should be no problem.

I want my cert asap and don't want to have to wait for a second visit.
