HI

Looking for a bit of advice or past experiences.

I have a Leupold scope given to me as a gift many years ago (15+). The elevation turret has gone up the creek and i would like it repaired. Spoke to the UK importers who have declined to help because they say the scope is a 'Grey Import'

I plan to send the scope back to US HQ, my question is, do i have to be aware of any legal issues regarding the sending of a 'faulty' scope from the UK to US ? Also, if the scope were beyond repair, and a new replacement was issued back to me, would i be liable to pay import duty and VAT ?

All comments would be greatly appreciated.

Chipper,

Leupold have an excellent reputation for warranty repairs. Since the US Govt introduced export controls on what they regard as "military grade" products, they have imposed regulation on the way companies operate.

If you email; their warranty centre with the details of your scope model they will tell you if it is subject to any red tape. They may even direct you to return it to a repair centre outside the US and closer to home.

Your scope most likely has a serial No too let them know all the details and I bet they will tell you where to send it and how to get it repaired.

You may be able to get it repaired by one of the European dealers. Some offer service /repairs.
