Hi everybody.

Been clay pigeon shooting with a friend for around 10 weeks now and got the bug so looking at buying my first gun.

Just wondering what you guys would recommend, looking to spend around £600-£700 or so on a o/u multichoke.

Might have been a liitle bit spoiled with my introduction to shooting, as I have been using my friends krieghoff k80, which apparently is a good quality gun.

So, what's the best stategy, buy a well known brand, second hand gun or a top end lanber

Guess you have answered this question a million times but any advise would be appreciated

Cheers

Hi Mate!

think this post would have been better in guns and equipment, but thats for the moderators to decide, anyhow....get along to a good dealer and TRY lots of guns in your shoulder. I made the mistake of buying a gun on looks and opinions but found I couldn't hit the floor with it if I was sat up a tree! after getting frustrated I visited Cartridge shooting grounds and the top chap there sorted me out with a Winchester 6500 Trap special, and now I can hit things! (not every thing but a huge improvement!! )

Good luck and hope you find one that fits for the right price!

a second hand beretta is far superior to a brand new lanber.

a better option is a semi auto. if it doesn't fit you can alter it to fit.

dont forget gun fit is the most important item

my advice would be to get a second hand o/u beretta, quality made guns and and o/u will suit you for clays, decoying, and driven shoots. of course the main issue is go with what fits you best, but a point that is gone over time and again on this forum is buy cheap and you'll have to buy again soon, might aswell start out with a decent make of gun, which fits you well, and if after a while you think its not for you, the better makes can be sold on for the same price you bought it for. i say beretta because they've served me well, good make and hold their value, others may disagree but thats what its about! a nice 686/687 should be good, but let us know how you get on, and you may well prefer a browning or something else. but all the best,

BM.

Have you posted your application to the plod, and looked into a suitable safe ?

If not that's the first thing..

Then you can take part in my favourite hobby - www.guntrader.co.uk

I'd say Beretta also... But make sure what ever you buy, it fits.

I've was where you were 5 months ago and I found that the £600 to £700 pound bracket is a bit limited when it comes to buying new.

I used to borrow my uncles 15 yr old Beretta 686 and I was hooked.

You'll be looking at Lanbers, Bentinsoli's, Browning Medallists etc.

With reference to second hand guns you'll get the occasional beaten up Miroku/ Beretta/ Browning.

Now if you can get you're self into the £800 plus bracket you'll get you're self a gun that would of been well over a £1000 pound new.

And as some of the poster's have put it this will get you Beretta 686, possible 682, Browning 325, 425, 525, Miroku Mk 3800, MK6000, MK7000, MK38, MK60, MK70 and many others.

These guns will be more reliable have a much better resale value.

If you do buy a new gun in the £600 - £700 bracket you'll lose £200 as soon as you leave the shop.

If you buy second hand you could brake even if you upgrade later, and you won't be suffering from such a bruised wallet.

I Hope you'll be as lucky as me and find a Beretta 682 Gold Sporter for just over £800.

Good luck mate!!
