Ferret Master
Hi, I was at a clay shoot today and while we were competing in teams on the final stand of the day, a 100 bird flurry I spotted a brown ball of fur rolling down the valley. There was a flush coming from one side and the ball of fur was the other side. About 50 spectators went up to the edge of the rope and it turned out it was a stoat trying to kill a very large rat. Anyway after much squealing on the rats part and plenty of '50p on the stoat' calls, the stoat decided that trying to get dinner infront of many armed shooters wasn't such a good idea and scarpered. The rat sat there looking stunned while I ran to get my gun. However someone else beat me to it and 28g of 8's at 10m made short work of ratty. It was brilliant to see and shows how wildlife has adapted on this clay shoot to not feel threatened by people or the continuous bangs of the guns. pin
At the Essex masters there was a rabbit sat 60yds away on the last or second last stand on the last course. One of the targets was a low dolly away loopy thing, like a frisbie thrown by a girl (tin hat on). Rabbit sat 15 yds from where the clay was breaking on a bank, few people left the target late and tried rifling it (sod it was) and the rabbit just sat there with shot smacking into the bank not 10yds from it. That's not to mention the pheasant standing on the opposite bank of stand 12 at the English open, barking at the top of its voice. It must have been shot at, not on purpose it was just in the way 100yds off, hundreds and hundreds of times. Instead of move it just sat there barking louder. Ferret Master
We have had pheasants at my normal clay ground which is on a farm where there is a game shoot walk across the rabbit clay setup when we are shooting and we have had to stop to let it past. FM
pin
Some call them a stupid bird, I don't think so. They definitely know when they are safe
