Cranfield
I don't know where sharm el shiek is, but I have fished Lake Nasser from Aswan on a fishing safari, which included accommodation, guides, boats etc.. The fishing seems to be mainly guided and you can make enquiries locally and book something by the day. I don't know watch you would catch if you just walked down to the River Nile and cast out a line, but there must be local shops that could advise you and probably hire out tackle. High Desert Hunter
I have been to Sharm El Sheikh 3 times, never did any fishing, but I do know that the Red Sea does provide some dea sea fishing. It is very hot, and the nights are hot and Humid. Which hotel are you staying at, we stayed at the Hilton on the beach, and the Sofitel which has a private beach. Had a great time, I was assigned to Egypt for one year with the U.S. Air Force near Alexandria. Dave Beeman
vole
Hi mate.I go to Sharm diving and am a mad keen angler.Officially it is notr allowed cos it is part of Ras Mohammed national Park.I sneaked a packaway rod down to the beach but was so on edge with all the cops about so did not do much.BUT dont despair. The Bedouin boat crews are allowed to fish and often troll lures off the back of dive boats for tuna etc.Have a word with them and see if they will take you out on the reef. They use VERY heavy mono handlines giving a clue to what is in there. There is or was a shop selling fishing gear at Naama Bay near Macdonalds. You could get away with fishing off the rocks in the isolated coves on the edge of Sharm. Next time go to Dahab where it is not forbidden.I was catching Barracuda on lures off the beach at night. There is also fishing off Hurghada. There are adverts for big game fishing in the Red Sea.I used to live on the red Sea in Saudi where i did nothing but fish and dive.It is amazing. This time of year the sharks come in plus other BIIIIIIG stuff.tiger shark, hammerhead, grouper, humphead wrasse,1000lb tuna.............pm me if can help at all.otherwise have fun.i recommend buying Lonely planet or Rough Guide. If you do get the chance and are fishing light, then raw prawn, squid or tuna is good on a small hook.be careful as most small stuff have spines or razor sharp fins. jon0881
good shooting mate of mine has been there diving a few times now. I think one year he fished it and said it was crackin. If you cant bare to go and sit on a beach, i bought a snorkel, mask and a set of fins. I enjoy that much more than laying about and just as much as sitting there fishing for them. I prefer to stick to the fly for home!
vole
Good point about the snorkelling.Or diving.A trip to Shark reef at Rasmo can be awesome.Be careful tho as it can be rough.Fins needed and floatation jacket if not strong swimmer. If fishing be very discreet round Sharm National park.
