new to the flock
Well Mate we still have not been able to stabalize the uploading of pictures to date so I am going to try and host some to go through some of your training problems. I am going to try and cover the sit and the healing for you to start with. With the sit I would like to go right back to the beginning and start it over with the food. The differance is if he gets up I want you to mechanically sit him back into position. This is very simple and is a matter of poppong up on the lead while at the same time pushing in a backwards motion on the hips.....DO NOT PUSH DOWN A few things I need you to remember and do; 1) give the command once and only once...in the beginning as soon as his butt hits the floor, in two weeks time, to tell him to get into position. 2) When he gets up on his own tell him he has done wrong with the phewy or aut command....and then mechanically put him back into position. Re-command with sit when he is in position. 3) PRAISE as soon as he is in position or as soon as you have corrected and re-command in position. Praise is 70% of a correction....you have to tell them they are doing it right. For the healing as he is older now what I would like you to do is ; 1) sit him beside you. 2) step off on your left and say heal. 3) as soon as he is out of position....his left shoulder is in front of your leg....tell him phewy/ aut give a good pop,(a pop is a quick snap on the lead in an upwards motion causing a quick tightening and release of the lead....not a pulling motion) and change direction by 30 to 180 degrees. 4) praise with good boy as soon as he comes into position with the turn. 5) repeat as needed...in the beginning you may only get 20 feet over the whole lesson...do not get frustrated just continue to pop and turn and praise...it will soon lengthen out. Use your daily walks as the lesson. We also need to work on the recall command. However I would like you to start with these two. If you have any questions let me know.
