The Hornet bullet is usually a .223 calibre as opposed to a .224 although that is incidental as I am using .224 in my Hornet. The reason for the Hornet designation is probably because of the 40grn weight and won’t make any difference if fired in a .223. You will have to try them out though because they may not suit your rifle as they may not sit out of the case far enough. They may have too far to jump into the rifling which may make them a little inaccurate. G.M.

Hense we have a gun (as do you gemini) which is chambered for .224 (having said which its difficult to tell) certainly our 30yr old brno hornet is chambered with the intention of using .224 ammo. I also believe hornet ammo is in .224.
skinner
thanks for your coments, what would be the minimum bullet seating depth?. i have tried seating the bullet which gives me COL 2.161,the minimum is 2.160. i have seated the bullet 0.0061,i cant seat it any more becuase it will be to short, cant go much longer because they are to short. the jump from case to rifling should this be kept to a minimum?. hope this makes some sence

(or so im told, its also how i seat mine) However our 6.5x55 uses very short projectiles and comes nowhere near this, its much nearer 40 thou. and its the most accurate rifle we have. The velocity and frangability of the hornet bullets im not sure about, what fister says makes sense, however im not sure the manufactors do actually do this, in our hornet we use 35grain bullets BT's, these get spat out at 3250fps and we have never had any problems with them. Although i still wouldnt like to use them on a fox too far away as they will loose energy v quickly.
Dunkield
You will need to experiment with jump/jam to rifling. One thing I have learnt over the last few months is not to take anything for granted. My .223 CZ with A Max's seems to like 0.060" best and I have yet to find the ideal for the 6.5, but it certainly doesn't like it too close. Factory Federal Premiums work a treat in my 6.5 and they jump 0.200" in my Tikka
