All the above and one more thing is seeing the dog in action and getting opinions from others who have seen it work. Why are you buying a stud dog? Shootingman
Hips scores not needed, Cockers require eye test plus glaucoma.

Shootingman
Ok cheer's all.Shootingman thank's eye's yes glaucoma? what the *%** is that is it to do with sugar level's & fit's in the dog please forgive me but break it down for me please. Glaucoma is a range of conditions which results in the pressure inside the eye to become too high, the eye ( be it man or beast ) is constantly covered by a flowing fluid which ensures the eye doesn't become too soft or too hard, & keeps the eye round. This fluid flows from behind the iris, travelling through the pupil. If at any time this fluid flow is slowed or obstructed in any way, this causes an increase in pressure on the back of the eye, if untreated, blindness is the result. The Glaucoma test can be carried out at the same time as the normal eye test by your ophthalmologist, both the eye & glaucoma tests are required in Cockers. A friendly word of warning,(had my ESS tested recently) the test takes approx 1hr (30mins per eye), but it is VERY stressful for the animal, I stayed with my bitch throughout the test & it totally ------ me up, so with the best intentions, please get yourself prepared for an unpleasant but nessesary experience. The test requires retesting every 2yrs, but I won't put my bitch through it again, I'll retire her from breeding first.
