A friend of mine once met a chap who said he was writing a book about otters.  “Very interesting,” said my friend, “where do you watch your otters?”  To which the man replied that he had never seen one, “they are very rare you know.” When asked where his information was coming from he said he was researching it from other people’s books, the information must be correct if it is in a book. He had no answer when asked, “what if the previous author had never seen one?”
