jcbruno
hi fellas i was wondering if there is any guys out there using russian 7.62-39 for hunting ? i am interested as i might pick up a CZ 527 carbine in this caliber for my wife nice light gun very low recoil and would be easy for her to hold and handle, she is only interested in using it on deer what you guys think? jcbruno
here in Canada they offer 123gr and 125 gr soft point factory loads from remington and federal, and hornady and winchester offer reload bullets for these rifles, here is the rifle in question

jcbruno
yeah its not my first choice in a hunting rifle but its not for me i am considering it because of its light recoil and the rifle it self because it fits my wife perfectly, i was talking to a few fellas from Canada who have taken white tail, mule deer and even black bear at 200 yards with it using the correct load and of course shot placement, i belive the recoil is simaler to that of a 223, i figure with such a light bucking round the wifey should be able to get shot placement
WeihrauchPower
The recoil of say a .243 isn't really that bad compared to a .223! I of course don't know the build of your other half so i can't really comment. I personally wouldn't consider taking deer with a 125gr projectile. Especially at the ranges that i would expect to arrise when deer hunting. I don't hunt deer so this is merely my opinion!
jcbruno
i hear what you fellas are saying not exactly ideal and i always like to make the kill clean i hate seeing such a marvel of nature suffer and my wife might freak out if the danm thing ran of bleading every where, perhaps a tikka t-3 or a cz550 euro lux in a 243 or 308 might be more ideal for the wifey but the idea is interesting i know i could do it cleanly but i have 2 rifles already and i am scoping a 375 h&h so as much as another novelty gun would be great not realy in the books thanks for all your imput fellas. Dunkield
I personally wouldn't consider taking deer with a 125gr projectile. Bullet weight is just one part of the equation, look at how many hinds/stags get taken each year in Scotland with 25-06's firing 117grns
jcbruno
well i know out to 200 yards i think the rifle is capable and i still might buy one for the wife and like said its not the weight of the bullet its yhe velocity thats why the 243 is probably 1-1/2 times more powerful, i just dont know what to get her then if not the cz527 listed above, i have also looked at the browning a-bolt micro hunter and the weatherby vangaurd compact as much as i loose sleep thinking about my addicting hobby these are my favorite hard choices i know once the wife and i buy the rifle and the dies and a few boxes of ammo and a leupold scope we will have a lot of fun :(
njc110381
Why not a 6.5x55? They're supposed to be great kid/small adult guns. That's why I want one :(

That's why I want one :( neil my friend if they made that cz527 carbine in 6.5sweed or 7-57 mauser it would be a done deal see the wife realy likes this one and i could after a while get it rebarreld to a better caliber like the 7-57 mauser or 7mm08 I think i will put a leupold fixed 6 power on this rifle yah i realy think i want this rifle no i need to buy this rifle
