Ferret Master
Hi, My computer froze earlier so I hit the reset button. It proceeded to load up again but then just stopped after the initial numbers and words that appear on the screen when you first turn it on. It then says for a short while in the top right hand corner of the screen that it is reading roms. The screen then goes blank and nothing more happens. Anyone got any ideas as I'm currently stuck on an antique machine in our dining room? FM

dazzyboi
So it doesnt get past the POST screen? (i.e. turn pc on, load of numbers and stats come up on screen, usually with a confirmation of the amount of RAM, then it gets stuck?)? If it gets past the post screen onto the next screen press F8 and you should see a menu, in this menu select "Safe Mode" see if the PC boots up in safe mode. Log into windows as normal, right click on "My Computer" and select "Properties" select the "Advanced" tab, then select "Startup and recovery" take the tick out of "Automatically restart" this way if the system is crashing it will give us a BSOD with a code which will give us more info as to whats wrong. Ferret Master
Did nothing to it other than disconnect and reconnect the wireless internet which is something I have done a fair few times. I am using XP but I'm afraid I don't have the original boot disc. FM
