paulstjm
Any thoughts on either of these in 6.5 x 55 thanks
Devilishdave
I have fired the blaser and although I apreciate the engineering in it I was not particularly taken with it yet my M8 loved it and the guy who owns the rifle gets on well with it as well. I remember years ago firing a mauser 7.92 and it was one of the most comfortable rifles I have ever fired from the standing position and I surprised my self with my group. either way I guess you wont be to disapointed. Baldrick
Paul, I'm facing the same dilemma, looking for decent 6.5 x 55mm (except I'm left-handed). I'm looking at a Mauser, or a Blaser R93, or a Sauer 202, preferably in synthetic/stainless. I'll probably end up veering towards the Mauser or the Sauer. See Bruce Potts' review of the Mauser in Shooting Times: http://www.shootingtimes.co.uk/guns/rifles...king_rifle.html
Dunkield
IIRC The R93 is the best selling rifle in Europe, so they must be doing something right. For that sort of money though, I would buy the Sauer A mate of mine has the lightweight (outback?) and it is unbeleivably light.
Baldrick
The Sauer has an alloy receiver though, and I recall a post on here or GT about the problems caused by the soft alloy threading on the S202. The Mauser is a much beefier rifle than the slender Sauer, but you then get bummed for £220 for the unique scope mount for the Mauser. Whereas you can buy a Sauer with a Weaver base. Baldrick
Paul, I got Beechwood Equipment (www.beechwoodsport.co.uk) to send me the Mauser and Sauer catalogues, and I got a Blaser R93 catalogue from Alane Rhone Ltd. It's far easier to deduce which model is likely to be suitable - I'm comparing a Sauer 202 Synthetic and a Mauser M03 Extreme. The Sauer is cheaper by a few hundred quid (discounting the mount required for the Mauser), although you could buy at least two Tikka T3s for the price of a single Sauer 202.... Arctic
Depends if you like plastic or not. The Mauser is heavy and made of steel. The Blaser is lighter and has some plastic details -- how much depends on which model. Both are great choices -- as is the 6.5 x 55. Personally, if I where going to buy a new 6.5 today, I would have bought the Blaser Professional ( http://www.blaser.de/R-93-Professional.123.0.html?&L=1 ) in plastic, with an exchange barrel in 9.3 x 62 -- the bear population is starting to get to big where I hunt... My Mannlicher Luxus with a Zeiss 2.5 - 10 x 50 on an Apel swing mount is heavy. I am considering exchanging it with a Blaser. Even though the Mannlicher has no plastic parts in it. I have been hunting for more than 20 years, and seen everything from old Mauser m/98 and m/96 to Browning BAR semi autos in use. Blaser is a good choice if you can live with some plastic. Getting the cartridges out of the magazine can also be a little tricky. However, the accuracy is great with almost all sorts of ammo, and it is quick to reload with the straight pull system. There is another bunch of guns that you may consider, e.g. SAKO, Tikka, Sauer who are all good choices. In the end I would recommend that you take something that you are comfortable with and that fits you. Just make sure that you get a good scope. Zeiss and Swarovski and a few more are good choices. The Sauer 202 can be bought with a steel receiver. Only problem is that steel weighs 0.5 kg more. The alloy one is fine as long as you mount your scope properly. http://www.sauer-waffen.de/index.php?id=231&lang=en
