.243 backfired

Recommended Posts

Mry I have loaded up .243 cases 3-4 times without noticing any cases getting noticeably longer and wondered if this could cause any massive amount of excess pressure, especially with the T3, as this has a very long leade into the rifling.

Sounds like you just had a bad case.

Case length problems are dependant on chamber length and some rifles will actually blow up with ammo other rifles will fire both well and accurately.

Without examining the rifle damage, case and chamber I have no real idea of the cause. BUT the results would be pretty similar IF a case that was too long had been chambered.

Dependant on the damage and to continue my comment re flinching it may be prudent to have a reproof telling the proof house the circumstances. This would give you a great deal of comfort about the integral strength of your action and remove a possible fear of a second more worrying occurrence. It would also remove any concerns about a cracked action resulting from the experience.

Only you know the severity of the mishap so only you can judge the possible consequences on your rifle but from what you say as much damage was done removing the stuck case as by the problem detonation.

??? :( I don’t need beauty sleep…..I’m naturally ‘andsome.

Just finished loading up some 100grn SP and then spoke to the boss on MSN using the web-cam. An hour on the phone to America using the web-cam. Can you imagine how much that would cost on the telephone. :good:
