Can anyone enlighten me?

 I think that it is a modern, Made in China, item. I've seen images of tinplate recruiting signs and they don't look like that. And I've seen an original British Army one that used to on a public house in Leicestershire for years even through into the 1960s.

The spacing on yours at the bottom is wrong. And usually they use three colours not two. They look like this.

Thanks for taking the time to reply, to be honest it was given to me so it didn't cost me anything. 

I won't be guilty now when I screw it to my garage door to protect it when it sticks/swells in winter and I have to kick it.
