just trying to think of the centrepin reel you would use..........think its called "The ariel"...........perhaps someone could check

That's the one - I dont have a 'real' one - but I do have one of the Fred Crouch versions. I also have rarther lovely Gary Mill centerpin that was made for me a few years ago, that's not a million miles away - so either of those shouldn't be out of place.

I'm kicking myself, because the chap who sold me the rod also had a nice Allcocks star back Nottingham reel, compete with a clicker / ratchet - that I stupidly didnt buy.... I do have my Grandfathers / Great Grandfathers rarther plainer Allcocks Nottingham though, so for authenticity, that might have to be used on occasion.

now...........thats fishing.......

think fishing has gone too high tech..............i still have my Mr Crabtree book

Hahaha - I do have to admit - I normally fish with one or two ledger rods, complete with bite alarms and fixed spool reels - then I'll have a centerpin on a float rod to keep me busy / amused. I could get bored very easily just waiting for the alarms to go off. But yes, a bit like shooting - it's very easy to let all sorts of gadgets get between you and what you are basicaly trying to achieve.

All of the above said though - if I'm fishing with one rod / reel, it will either be a fly fishing or a float rod with a centerpin
