jarmuschfan
Hello I shall be taking delivery of my first rifle next week, a new gas-ram .22. When placing my order I opted for an Evolution silencer too, but without the Vortex tip. However, reading AGW at the weekend I was made aware, through an article printed therein, that Weirauch are regarded as producing the best silencers. May I ask the more experienced airgunners on this forum if they might agree? It may not be too late to cancel the order for the Evolution, and ask for a Weirauch instead. The gun model is the new SLR98, and would Weirauch silencers fit this gun? (I know they have a relationship through the HW90/K already). Really, does it make that much bloody difference anyway? How silent can it get? I know they say that the greatest noise comes from the pellet hitting the target, so who's kidding who? In all fairness, I stand to 'save' £60 odd if I cancel the Evolution (and I could do with saving that right now), and it would be decent to let the shop know now rather than later. Hope you may be able to advise, and thank you for your consideration.
monkeyjaimz
Now then mate, Weirauch are the pretty much regarded as the best silencers yes. If you can opt for one with your new set-up, i'd definately go for one When your out hunting, you need to be as silent as possible to gain every advantage. Hope this helps

Hope you may be able to advise, and thank you for your consideration. you will find that the biggest gain from any mod on an air rifle is one that is on a precharged, because of the ammount of high pressure air that is being blasted out of the muzzle. Compared to any other the discharge is not anywere near as load. Having used both the Evo and the Weirauch i would go for the cheaper, lighter and more efficient Weirauch, I see that theoben are screw cutting the latest Rapid will your SLR98 be screw cut ? if so a Weirauch should fit as they are threaded (not sure if they now come any different) Dougy
WeihrauchPower
Both are good! If you can still cancel the order i'd get the Weihrauch (of course)! lol! Nice choice of rifle by the way! Something a little different.
jarmuschfan
Thank you gents for your responses. It is much appreciated. WeihrauchPower - cheers. I thought so myself. This was one that 'ticked all the boxes', and let's face it, it is pretty lonely in that market segment/niche that it occupies. However, it suggested a bit of style and taste, and that's where I'll spend the money. I'm such a poncey *** sometimes. Anyway, I spoke to Michael at Blackpool Air Rifles, as one of his colleagues swears by the SLR, and he suggested that in actuality, there is little but a financial difference 'twixt the two, especially as the gas-ram has less of a report than the springer. However, no mention was made of any incompatability of threadings and so on., Dougy, so I can't answer that question. For the moment I have decided just to stick with my original order and go with the Evolution. Once I've got into the sport a bit more, and earned some knowledge through experience then I can start to get adventurous with accessories. Thanks again guys. WeihrauchPower
With the Theoben gas-ram and Evo mod your report will be pretty low. Is this your first rifle? If so it's a bloody beauty! What have you got planned for up top?
jarmuschfan
WeihrauchPower Hmmm, I have opted for an AGS Vipr range 3x9 50 IR Mildot. The advice I got was that the limited range of an full power UK air rifle would negate the need for anything stronger; the AGS brand seemed to have a good ethos in terms of its raison d'etre; and the features seemed like they could be useful. My domestic situation will not allow a collection of rifles to be kept, and my economic situation got a tax rebate boost of a size just enough to cover the bulk of the outlay involved here. So, eff it, why not get something that will offer the best compromise and long-term usage? Maybe here in the city of Glasgow it won't get the workout it deserves, but by *mas we shall have a second home on the NE Highlands coast, so next spring shall hopefully see me with more oportunity to take it out into the field and see just what it is capable of. This applies to myself as well, of course. Your collection seems quite wide, and your picture suggests you have the space to use it. Oh the joys of a huge landmass and relatively dispersed population. MT

Oh the joys of a huge landmass and relatively dispersed population. MT Good choice of scope! I've heard good reports on the AGS range! I too recently purchased the Marlin with a tax rebate! Why not ey! I'm from Cornwall and i'm currently over here with my girlfriend who is from Melbourne. It's looking like i'm going to stay for good though. I've been here for 7 months and found it very easy to aquire permission to shoot on land. My girlfriends aunt owns a farm (as does practically everyones family ). I've not had the time to get out shooting much though, but i finish work on the 24th of October so i'm going to take a break and start to enjoy myself a bit. The permissions i have are a fair distance away so i've not even had a chance to even look at some of them. Altogether i have over 1000 acres. Plus you can shoot to control pests (foxes, rabbits, pigs, goats, feral cats and dogs) in any of the state forests. Good luck with the Theoben (the only recoiling air rifles on par with Weihrauch ) and i look forward to seeing some pics once your new setup is complete!
