what do other members feel about defra's proposed change to the general licence that allows us to shoot pigeons, crows, magpies ? i see they plan to remove jackdaws, jays, rooks and two types of gull

is this the thin end of the wedge ?

knowing them for the muppets they are how do we persuade them that all the above birds prey on songbird eggs and young ?

i know some stuff about Foot and Mouth but cant say on here..

will we have to have a license then to shoot Jackdaws , Rooks , Jay?

dont shoot jay but i shoot a lot of rooks. more rooks than crows here they are a pest.

CA might make a march against the ban so we might still be able to shoot these pests.

for the time now. shoot as many as possible before time runs out

My understanding is that a consultation document has been sent to interested parties prior to a review of the open licences under which we shoot pest species.

Proposed changes include removing rooks jackdaws and jays from the licence and changing the definition of an "authorised person".

This is a very long way from becoming law at the moment but is a chance for organisations with an interest to make their case, this will inevitably include the RSPB, RSPCA and others who are not particularly shooting friendly.

I can see that a very good, strong case can be made to keep rooks and jackdaws on the licence, but I fear that the days of being able to shoot jays are numbered.

Q
