al4x
Just heard from one of my mates who farms that under the farm assured cropping system that they have said you can't shoot clays over crops after the 31st March due to the bitumen content of the clays Probably only an issue to small clubs but it'll stop us playing on the farm

al4x
set aside has been removed this year, we still have ground to go on but I do shoot on a couple of small clubs where pretty much every clay goes over cropped ground, so will be a pain for the clubs involved. Ferret Master
Uh OH! Do you have a link by any chance? FM
al4x
came to me from a mate who had just sat through a meeting on it, might stop most clay shooting on farmland if it gets pushed too far as technically set aside is in the cropping rotation
Ferret Master
Might be worth notifying BASC etc before it's too late. FM
al4x
BACS won't be able to help this one, it'll be linked to the farm waste regs etc if the farmer wants to be part of the scheme which of course pays them more then they just have to accept the conditions. From one side I can see the logic but on another I know how it could affect a lot of the clay shoots I go to
Ferret Master
Same, about 40% of our clays land in a large crop field. I don't know whether the farmer is part of the scheme though? FM
al4x
It seems most farmers will be part of the scheme. My mate only read it as it was too wet to go drilling and was bored so decided to read the wad of paperwork that had come through. What it said was after the 31st March no clays should land on cropped land in the scheme. However it didn't say whether that was forever or each year after the 31st March. He took it to mean basically from the 31st March to Combining time. I guess time will tell whether they are going to enforce it but how long till they begin to look at lead contamination of cropped ground. After all some clubs I shoot at must put tons and tons of lead into cropped areas. Which actually thinking about it probably isn't a good idea anyway. Wookie
Well, it's not like anyone eats the stuff that grows in the bits the lead and clay land on. Oh, hang on...
