loopy bunny blaster
right ive got the papers for a shotgun and rifle for both me and my dad, we've filled in the shotgun one now its the rifle one. do you think i'd have a better crack at a .22lr or a .17hmr, i want it for winged vermin rabbits and close range fox. oh and i have 1000 acres of permission between two farms already advice needed urgently dudes. oh and im 15 in 15 days so then will be able to shoot unacompanied (obviously will not go walking around with a rifle before some serious practice on paper :( )
Eagleman
Different Police areas seem to apply different rules but given your age you may well find that the Police may impose an "accompanied" restriction for a period of time. loopy bunny blaster
i'd have no problem with that, 75% or my shooting is done acompanied by people over 21 anyway
humperdingle
I don't think .22lr is accepted (generally) for foxes, but .17hmr is with some forces. I'd say apply for both, and let the FEO guide your decision.

Sussex Countryman
Got a good PDF from BASC called "Rifles, Calibres and Land for FEO's". If you think it might help, PM me and I'll send it on. Sx Ctymn
davo
Apply for both, .22LR for closer range vermin, .17HMR for longer range vermin and Fox, don't think you will get the .22LR cleared for Fox and as already stated it depends on you're local force whether you will get the .17HMR for Fox, don't ask and you won't get. Good luck with the application.
loopy bunny blaster
thanks mate, i want a .17hmr really so ill put that down and if he wont let me have that when he comes round ill take a .22lr , its just the flatter flight path and less chance of ricochet that appeal to me. and if i get .22lr i wont even bother ask for it on fox ive shot one with it before and it was less than ideal and not something i want to do again. prob just use some bb carts from a shotgun for them if i dont get hmr
