amateur
My wife was given a little 3D Scottish Terrier wall plaque by one of her dog-walking friends, who was lamenting that she couldn't find a similarly designed plaque of her miniature dachshund. So, I thought that I would have a go. I found a silhouette of a dachs bitch on Google and printed it out on A4 and bought an A4 sheet of 18g copper on eBay. Glued the silhouette to it, fret-sawed and filed out the shape. I made the ear and wall-hanger from an offcut. I heated the copper up to cherry red and plunged it into water, so softening it. I was expecting to have to hammer out the 3D shape, but was pleasantly surprised to find that the copper was soft enough for me to shape it with my thumbs. I soft-soldered the ear and bracket on and sanded off the oxidisation. I researched on Google that the stuff to colour copper is "Liver of Sulphur", so again, eBay and I also bought a small pack of glass eyes. The liver of sulphur is incredibly smelly - think stink bombs and bad eggs - but gave a nice brown, which I was able to blend in with steel wool. Anyway, here is the end result. Thanks for the tips from @Old farrier This is my first attempt at sheet-metal and decorative art. It made a change from working on the bike! Our friend was delighted.
