duck catcher
today i had a couple of hours spare and there was only one thing to do grab my young jills and see how they worked.time was short so sod the nets and picked up me 4.10 .thought i would start them on a small warren and take it from there .both jills did me proud they worked hard no laying up and bolted some good rabbits for me some that came out of the burrow like a bat out of hell.did get one nip of the smallest girl but that was my own fault all in all had a great couple of hours enjoyed working with ferrets again wy did i leave it so long ended up with six good rabbits and missed a couple a fantastic day looking forward to the rest of the season .hope you all have a good one
Cranfield
Well done on a good day, the small nip often happens when they are young and highly excited.
lurcherboy
Is this there first year out duck catcher and how old are they? I have aquired two jills recently that haven't been handled enough and like to have a nip at me but nothing serious but they are cock on and I will persevere with them. I have taken advice from Tiercel regarding sorting the thick ones out. When I feed them and say back, and then throw a rabbit in to the court, they are racing to the back before my regulars but they are only 6 months old! They are really small and thats a rarity around here so the last thing I want to do is spoil them by too early a entry. Like to hear what you think duck. Like to hear what you think duck. these are last years young lurcher boy they came out of a court with over forty ferrets in never seen so many .they haven't been handled at all the guy just grabs them buy the tail .only got them at the start of the week been out there every day and one of them has a great temper when she comes out of a hole she is no problem to pick up .but the smallest jill is very nervous i made the mistake of just grabbing for her and she gave me a love bite .these two girls are both small but work well think they are only scimming the top of the warren at mo but they have only been worked twice it will come with exsperience.its been a few years since i last had ferrets i am no exspert when i go out to them i always let them come to me let them smell me hand and give them a tickle behinde the ears and under the chin before i pick them up it sounds soppy but it works for me handle them every day they will be fine.been out again today got to the warren and the heavens opened up we got three rabbits all good size and not milky at all but me daughter got fed up with the rain so we came home early she enjoyed herself going out again next week.
