wisdom
I was with the family today at the Lancashire game and country fair when I came across the forest of bowland moorland keepers stand. The 2 lads that were there were immaculately turned out in tweeds. My 8 year old grandson was very curious and they took their time to explain the exhibits. They had a great display and it really was eye-catching.We discussed various topics one being united utilities, grouse brood numbers and what surprised me was the amount of predation they get from gulls. They take large numbers of leverets as well as grouse chick's. Living on the coast we are used to them. But they were telling me of the large numbers that raid the moors. The lads were a credit to the profession. Yep protecting the large Gulls was a great move for conservation wasn't it or maybe it was deliberate to undermine Grouse shooting. We have one of their Moors very near our shoot (Keasdon Moor)and they couldn't get a licence for Gulls for love nor money last time I spoke to the Keeper.
