It attaches and releases by means of a bracket that fits on a Weaver/Picatinny rail. It can be pushed/pulled of the bracket if need be. Cases can be emptied by unzipping the bag. This is brand new and only tried to see if it fitted my set up this morning (S&W M+P 15-22 rifle with Athlon Midas Prism scope + Vector Maverick magnifier) but they 'got in the way'.
