Walking the dog

Took the hound out for a couple of hours in a wood near my house and it was teeming with pigeons, easily in excess of a thousand. For the first time ever I flushed two woodcock from the same patch of cover and they presented a perfect opportunity to join the woodcock club. The dog also flushed several pheasants and we saw two good roe bucks along with four foxes.

All within 15 miles as the crow flies of London Bridge ! Kids were with me and loved it, howling wind tossing the tree tops and making their cheeks glow red. Dog now curled up asleep, kids exhausted, ice cold beer in hand and the smell of roast lamb wafting from the kitchen. Not as good as being out shooting but better than sitting in front of the tv.
