Suffolk shooter
The best advice I can give is to make sure that you move slowly and as low down to the ground as possible. There must be some sort of cover available, be it tall grass, a small ditch, small bushes even the odd tree, gate etc. make it your aim to get as close to each quarry as you dare using these small bits of cover. Crawl on your belly, again slowly keeping as low as profile as possible. Overtime you will get better and better at it, resist the temptation to keep liftingyour head to take a look and even if you do, do it slowly. I guess the real answer is to do everything x10 times slower than you think it should be. All the best and keep us updated as you progress. Oh yeah helps if you are wearing neutral colours as well to blend in with your surroundings. SS

lewis
thanks guys keep the sugestions coming camo.. (homemade ghillie suits) but the best bet for a maggie is to bait them, or wait at the nest because their sly little ******* and near impossible to stalk. even how well your camod Lew
Gavo
As said above, baiting for maggys, crows, etc. I've used cat food & grass seeds in the past. Just take your time. With rabbits, I like stalking but am a huge fan of the hide which I usually set up a few days or a day before I plan to shoot so the little ******* get used to the sight & smell. Then sit there & pick them off. I find it easier with a multishot pcp rifle as its quieter & springers tend to get their ears up when you reload ! lewis
can you pleas tell me how i could stalk rabbits. i also suffer with distance estamating well.. great tips is to be slow. well camoed and measure the ground before you shoot it. if your stalking rabbits always be low and stick to as much cover as you can , avoid being out in the open as rabbits will clock you. also get youself a bipod if you havent already as you can increase your distances , always go for the head happy hunting lol Lew
Gavo
can you pleas tell me how i could stalk rabbits. i also suffer with distance estamating I'm prob not the best one to give advise on stalking as I very rarely do it ... I love a good hide me ! Anyway, I usually walk around very slowly & quietly & try to spot a group of bunnys from a fairly long distance then its just a case of getting as close as you can on your belly without disturbing them ! I think its a personal preference thing, theres no right way or wrong way just the way you think is best ... its all trial and error ! I find that once you get that lay down position you can pick them off & they wont even know where you are !

lewis
theirs a way if you have mildots. although it is complicated... you get the rabbit that you have shot(which could be hard because your tying to get one) anyway you get the rabbit and prop up its ears about 30 yards... see how much mildots this takes up and when your in the feild if its the size its 30 this is a technique i have tryed and works although depends how old the rabbit is , depending on the ear size Lew

Gavo
On a more serious note, I tend to practice distancing in the privacy of my own garden (I dont feel as stupid then !) ... depending on how big your garden is, set up a target about 30-40 generous paces (steps) and that should give you a rough estimate. Get used to different ranges then when your out in the field you'll get used to different distances there as well judging by what you've done in the garden .... all good fun ! oneshotkiller
well youu confused me too lew lol best advive i can give you mate is too really get to know your rifle i.e its max range your range what positions your comfartable with ( oo matron ) and spend time on the range so your sure you are confident hitting the target ! sounds silly but plenty of people dont practice enough then they wonder why they miss also what scope you using maybe try uprating your scope combo your rifle is a class bit of kit it deserves better than a £40 scope buy the best you can afford it will really make the differance . as for stalking if you can hear your footseps so can a scut tail , covering your face and hands helps no end anything to break up your outline and patience i,ve spent an hour stalking a rabbit then fluffed it because i,ve rushed my shot ! good luck mate keep us posted
