Just on the off chance as this forum usually turns up some valuable info. Does anyone know about discos in general or is a good mechanic ?!! Basically the remote locking controls for the TD5 aint opening the car. The car has sat for a week when we were away and it wont open now and there is now way to get into it than possibly smashign the window or getting to the battery some way. We have know idea what is causing this, the car has faiel to start a few times previously, could i be donw to the onboard tv screens in the head rest ? Any ideas folks? Or a good landy forum to go to tonight to get some ideas before doing something about it tomorrow ?

Much thanks as ever.

Use the key to open the driver lock then when you get inside point blipper at the sensor to silence alarms etc.

If no alarm put key in IGN and turn to see if you have any battery whatsoever.

No battery would point to -

Dodgy Alternator

Dodgy Battery.

To test both get the car going and put a multimeter across the battery, if there is 14v going across it then the alternator is doing its job but the battery is knackered :good:

How do i do that? I think the locked could well be shot.

The lever you pull inside the car is attatched to a cable which releases the bonnet catch when pulled, find that and you can get the bonnet to pop.

Have not done it on a disco to be honest but did it on a fiesta and there is less room under that! :good:

do what i said mate, charge it, get under the engine and stick a battery charger positve wire onto the thick red started motor wire (connetcted directly to the battery) and the negative to the engine block or chassis, anywhere earthed, this will charge the batery with out getting the bonnet up, give it a few mins and try unlocking it again

I have a V8 Disco Y reg and just tried a few things, if you have the right key the drivers door should unlock regardless are you sure you have the right key ie has it ever had a lock change on that door??

If you have the owners manual it has a section about over ridging any imobalise by a sequence of turns, you need to get in the car first and the normal key should open it regardless of a flat battery as they have a completely manual door lock system even though it has a remote to unlock also. i dont think you can dead lock from the remote, or you certainly cant from my one anyway, pressing lock once is locked completely. only the inside on dash lock button dead locks things.

Yeah i know what you mean Shaun, getting hold of one might be the hard thing. One of my farmer friends is bound to have something. Its just got down to this this thing is getting a pain in the *** as its not started a few times and its had a new steering block put on all in 2-3 mnths owning it! Especially with a 2 year old sister not something you want to be stcuk with out in the middle of nowhere, so maybe see what else the garage has we got it from.

Agreed mate, got two little ones myself under 5, wouldn't like to be in a quandry with them :good:

Once you get into it, which should be easy once you can get to battery or get it charged as evo said then do the simple meter check I have suggested, this gove you an indication of what is going on
