jimdfish
how tall will peas grow before pigeons stop feeding on tem? I am shhoting over late barley with peas interspersed for high protein silage. Also the farmer told me that when the barley starts turning brown the pigeons dive the crop and flatten. Is this true and is it good to decoy over it when they are doing this? jimDfish
ernyha
jimdfish, there is no limit to how high the peas grow as you will always have a chance of shooting over them from the day they are sown until the day the farmer ploughs the stubble in. As for laid barley it is normally the weather or crows that knock it down and then the pigeons cash in on it when it ripens. Provides good shooting but it is hard to pick up the birds especially if they fall outside the laid areas. I had good sport shooting the crows as they were doing the damage on Monday and now wait for it to ripen and the pigeons get on it.
