gamebag
I keep seeing all these scopes with mill dot cross hairs & I wonder are they any better than the traditional duplex. I have always used the duplex reticle style scopes with springer air rifle & i have had no problems with them what so ever!. But if i ever get round to buying a new rifle i might be tempted to get one (which will sadly be quite a while as theire is no where round where i live that i can shot.). So what do you lot prefer & do you think it's worth forking out that little extra for a mill dot scope do they work better than a duplex cross hair or should i stick with the duplex? sharp_shooter
The mill dot reticule is a great improvement, it allows more accurate holdover/under aiming. You just think 20 yards, half a dot low instead of guessing in inches or cm's. well worth the cash!
gamebag
so what roughly is the value of each dot and line then on a mill dot reticle?
sharp_shooter
It obviously depends on the zoom but on 6x at 30 yards 2-3 inches. I am just guessing as i am not completely sure but that is roughly correct. Any one got the exact figure?
gamebag
So then it would help to get a scope with an adjustable objective lense then to asist in the use of using the mill dots.
sharp_shooter
Not essential. You know the size of a rabbits head roughly so you can work out the gap between mildots. You dont actually need to know the gap between the just need to no what dot for which range, this comes with practice. Thats another reason to go down the range and test the new gear
red_stag88
Some people dont particually like them, but they are a great help for ranging and calculating holdover/under.
1 of 5
Mil-dots are designed to be used on 10 mag though it's not essential to use that mag to get use out of them. Some info here. http://www.5mm.biz/mildot/agmildot.html
