Luminous
Hi As the title suggests, I'm almost totally new to airguns. Obviously I'm struggling a little, and most of you are about to say join a club. I think I will do that in the future at some point, but what I would like to do now is to brush up on some theory. I've had a browse through this website for "stickies" to help out totally new ppl, but I've not found any so far.... Do any of you have a weblink to a good beginners guide to shooting. I don't mind reading through 50 pages of technical stuff as long as all the terms used are explained at some point. I've a good science background and want to learn a lot more about hold over / under, paralax and good shooting technique. I am a consistent reasonable shot, with groupings around 1 inch at 30 yards. What I'm really stuggling with it compensating for range. I'm happy with the fact that pellets follow an arc when they are fired. I'm also happy with the concept that a scope is only zeroed at a certain range, even negating the pellets trajectory. For safety reasons I'd like to know the following: With a 12 ft\lb air rifle what is the maximum pellet range? ie how much of an open field do I need if I just held the gun up in the air at 45 degrees and pulled the trigger? PTaylor2k4
well, if you want to read thats ok but i found that getting out in the field and practicing at different ranges with targets halped alot. You can not learn from theory, you need to practice. Taylor
Luminous
Yeah, agreed. Its just nice to know what other people are talking about when you meet up with them! I'll definately go to a club as long as its not too expensive, it should be fun

Vulcha
You live anywhere near plymouth? there is a place not far called Dartmoor marksman. It costs £30 to join for a year then £1 for each session. You have to go for 8 sundays in a row (which are free) or they do not accept you. Take a look at their website on: http://www.dartmoormarksmen.co.uk/
Luminous
wow! 8 Sundays in a row or they do not accept you. Thats quite strict, but hey, I guess its worth it. Unfortunately I'm up in Durham. Sorry about not posting that sooner, but I failed to check back....... :*)
ernyha
Unfortunately I'm up in Durham. Sorry about not posting that sooner, but I failed to check back....... :*) Once again a lot of needless confusuion because a valid location is not entered in the profile. Just putting UK is not much help to anyone, why not put Europe and make us really guess?
