pigeon master
Hi Guys, Not sure if it’s the same where you live but there seems to be thousands of pigeons where I live. Have they been getting fertility treatment from the NHS and having six at a time. The fields that have flat barley are awash with them at the moment. I didn’t expect to see them forming up in big groups at this time of year, I'm fairly new to pigeon shooting but I thought it would be a little later in the year before they started to hang together. Will most of these birds be this years young, its just that the woodies that nest within view of where I live don’t go very far from the nest, they spend all day just pecking about the grass round the nesting site. Let’s hope we get some bumper bags. Bye Justin The PM Happy woodie shooting
eugene molloy
PM, We're seeing a lot too; it's hard to guage against last year, but certainly no less; they're sure enjoying my lettuces big style! The birds you saw on the field aren't one big flock, just a gathering of small parties of twos and threes, and yes there will be a number of youngsters amongst them. They won't flock up until the weather closes in. By and large I don't shoot at this time of year; I'm uneasy about letting the nestlings starve to death, and reduce the numbers available in the autumn. Many people in the forum feel the same. remytherussell
We are getting the same here, N Hampshire. Went out for a walk round Tuesday and could no resist bagging 6 for the pot. All had barley & rape seed in their crops. One field where the farmer has cut a strip round a rape crop was really pulling them in. They do seem to be a bit skitty, but most returned within 10-15 minutes. RTR
