at the mo i have 6 ferrets, 2 spayed jills, and 3 unspayed jills, and 1 intact hob. im selling one jil to 8shot from this forum. im looking at getting the hob vasectomised to take the remaining jills out of season. the only problem is hes one of there offspring. is there any problem with this considering there will be no actual breeding, or am i better off getting another hob for this job.

cheers

i will deffo get him vasectomised, not sure if i will breed off one of them this year, as i have many people asking for them.

had 4 kits left over from the last litter(10 originally), two of them are gone, and another is going this weekend, leaving me with a lovely hob, called eiros( god of love cause he has a white heart on the top of his head).

cheers

personally I have my ferrets split into 3 different cages...hobs, jills, and younguns.

I have 2 hobs together they are fine, by the end of the season I will be down to 3 jills, and then I can decide who I want to line with who the following year based upon the years performance.

Personally I wouldn't have a ferret castrated.....too much of a risk of being put under, also I dont agree with the ethics.

Paul do you mean vasectomised? Because castrated is a completely different thing all together, currently i have 2 entire hobs who live separetely because they do fight and try and mate with each other leaving marks etc, 2 castrated males (Balls taken off) who are the best workers ive got and live with a group of 5 jills, have no problems with them fighting or trying to mate with everyone.

I also have a vasectomised hob who mates with all my jills to take them out of season and lives with again about 5 jills.

Unless you want to breed every single year, or take the risk to use the jill jab at the vets then i would definately get a vasectomised hob to take them out of season and stop the oestrogen flowing around the jills bodies.

I have 10 jills and 5 hobs, and i certainly wouldnt like to breed every single jill, id be looking at around 100+ ferret kits to rehome, and thats only if they come into season once a year, but usually its 2-3.
