Barrel Shortening and Blueing

If you take care then you will only need to reblue the end of the barrel where you have machined it.

Any decent turner can do this.

They will put the barrell in soft jaws on a lathe, keeping marking down to a minimum by using something to protect the finish. Part off the gash piece and recrown the end.

You should be able to reblue it yourself with one of those nastey chemical kits that are available as the amount of metal showing that you have cut will be minimal.

Good luck.
