bored out 10 bores

Does anyone have any experience with Spanish 10 bores which have been bored out to 8 bore? I've been offered a kestrel sbs boxlock that has been bored out and proofed as an 8 bore.

I've hankered after a double 8 for ages, but an original english 8 is way beyond my means! These bored out guns must have thin barrels :good: ... but then they are proofed.

Any thoughts appreciated.

Most of the Barrel blanks in 10g would simply be bored out to an 8 and thats not just guns from spain.

Most of the 10's from the 60's and 70's -Elderkins,matadors,Zabala's could certainly be bored out. Thats why I tell people when they buy an old 10g and worry will they be alright putting fast steel through them. If its one of those models there is no problem!!!!!!

Thanks - its choked 1/2 in both barrels and has a 4" chamber. I guess I'll reload for it. Its the sort of gun that will only come out few times a year but could be great fun - and there is no way it can recoil more than a heavy 3.5" load out of my 12 bore browning gold!

thanks - they are certainly very heavy guns to start with. This one has a 4" chamber and is choked 1/2 and 1/2, which is perfect. I'm sure it would pattern better than big loads from a 12 bore - and hopefully recoil a bit less
