Big_Sam
Hello there! I used to be a bit of a PC whizz, but I am now a few years out of date and so is my main PC. It has developed a graphics card fault and it needs a general upgrade. What I am keeping: Windows XP home with SP2 2 x 160GB SATA HDD (not in raid) What I need: CPU (and heat sink) RAM Motherboard PSU Graphics Card I like to get my bits from www.overclockers.co.uk as they do a good service for me up to now. The budget is £210 (inc VAT) What you need to do is choose what you think is the best bits on the Overclockers website, then post the shopping basket list! Cheers, Sam

pin
Erm Anyone who does reply, when your done my lawn could do with cutting and the car needs washing What form factor must the board be? More bang for AMD than intel at that price, any preference? 1GB ram or 2? Is it to play games (ie heavy on the gfx card or not). While you can get a decent setup for that, you'd need to know first to tailor it to your needs Edited February 8, 2008 by pin
Big_Sam
Sorry I had forgotten to say what its for! 50% photo editing (high RAM and CPU) low GFX 25% office applications 25% games (basic, like HL2, F.E.A.R.)
pin
Go for 2GB of ram, AMD chip (fastest you can find) and cheap out on the GFX card, for those games a cheap-**** £20 card will do you fine.
Big_Sam
Well after thinking about it for another 5 mins, total change of plan! I am going to stick with the laptop, but get a 22" widescreen and calibration device. And use that instead of the desktop altogether! Wired up with a USB mouse and keyboard, and the laptop works fine with the top shut, giving a superfast platform to play with! Genious! Hardy
For the best prices on components have a look at www.scan.co.uk in particular the today only & mixit sections. If your doing a lot of photoshop type work in addition to the monitor consider a Wacom graphics tablet - you dont need a huge one but they make life so much easier than using a mouse prices are from about £35 upwards.
