Rough Shooting Requirements

Hello all. Would be grateful for a little advice. Am keen for a bit of rough shooting. I have my shotgun and recently went out and about between farms introducing myself etc. Once (let's hope) I get a call back from a farmer(s), what else would be required to start shooting? I don't mean equipment, but more along the lines of legal bits and bobs. I have drafted a permission slip and would of course determine the exact boundaries. Is there much else to sort out? Would the FAO need to be informed, etc...?

Many thanks for your time.

Dan,

You do not need to let the police know where you go shotgun shooting.

As for the legal bits, you need the permission (preferably in writing) of the occupier / person who has the shooting rights.

If there are footpaths on the land take extra care. You can shoot over or even from a footpath, provided you do not injure or interrupt anyone using it.

There are permission slips on this forum, and BASC have also produced some, written by a lawyer. If you want a BASC one, just send me a PM with your e-mail and I will be happy to send it to you.

That is the basics, more in the BASC shotgun Code of Practice, available on the BASC web site.

Best wishes

David

DanielsJS, I assume you have insurance, that seems to be about the only thing you haven't mentioned.

Hello Cranfield. I have it arranged insofar as have researched the companies providing insurance (will go with BASC) and am all ready to pay. I've had my shotgun for just over a year without having used it except for clay, so have been holding back on the insurance until I get permission (fingers crossed) to shoot on private land.

Thanks for the reply.
