SMK Spitfire weights

I have been pellet testing again. Can anyone give me an accurate weight for a .22 SMK spitfire pointed pellet? Have searched all over the web but can't find weight anywhere.

Wouldn't like to give unfair advantage by getting the weights wrong !!!

Thanks Big Sam. Where did you get that from ? Anyone got any problem with that info? Might cause big issues with wot we all think might be the best pellets.

Hav currently got 47 different tins from £2.30 to £16.50 for a tin. So far only tested through Cometa 400 but guess wot comes out on top. Watch this space...

The answer will probably be different for every type of gun.

I've got an underlever that will group passably well with much whatever you put down the spout.

However, different weights of pellet will affect the point of aim.

AA Fields & Accupels seem to work well in most guns (16g & 14.3 G respectively) but don't seem to move the point of aim that much if you switch from one to the other.

I'm not automatically assuming that the SMK ammo is pants (it may work for you) but the majority of comments I've read, from those that tried them are that they are....err...inconsistent.

Post your results, I've got a mate with a Cometa Fenix who would be intersted, & so would I.

your underwear assumption is basically accurate. It just happens that these pellets come out my barrel faster and with more power than any other pellet I've tried. Unfortunatley, once it's left the barrel is when the trouble starts. Couldn't hit a barn door at point blank. I dont know about 5p @ 50yds.. more like five pounds at fifty inches.. :good:

If you're desperate to try something cheap, pointy & comes out "a bit lively" give marksman pointed a try(14.3g?).LOL

Seem to make a bit of a hiss as they travel, but boy do they arrive!

You may be able to get them to group reasonably, despite the ballistic inefficiency of being pointed.

A lot better on the pointy front are the AA Hunters @ 16g & a slightly blunted point, group nearly as well as AA Fields.

When all's said, domes will probably be more consistent.

Pays yer money & takes yer choice

Okay.

Here's what I've found with My .22 Cometa 400 Fenix. New July last. Fired about 3500 pellets. Combro 625 MK4 chrono. Targets at 15m shooting off padded rest. Dry and sunny, no wind. Figures: weight, velocity in feet per sec, power in ft/lbs and a grouping score from 10 down to 7. 10 being sub inch group.7 being outside 3'' group allowing for 'duff shots'. (yes there were plenty!!) 10 of each fired, Napier Lubed, last 5 recorded and average used here. All pellets listed in descending order (with their weights in grains) based on score. If you want all the facts and figures PM me and I'll email the spreadsheet.

Conclusions 1) you don't necessarily get what you pay for.....If only Spitfires were accurate !!!

2) If you think reading it is boring, try shooting it.

3) 7 pellets put me the wrong side of the law and only 14 were deadly accurate

4) Sub 12 springers don't like magnums

For this gun I'll use the Milbro Jet for hunting and the RWS Hobby for Target. When I 've put the top15 pellets through the next gun( My Webley Stingray XS) I'll post the results to demonstrate how different the results can be.

21 different types of pellet. 3 went FAC and only 5 were deadly accurate.

In this gun, I'll use the Defiant 5.48 and the H&N Hollowpoints as this is mainly used for Hunting.

I'll post the Weihrauch results soon. I'm going to sell the Webley and possibly the Weihrauch to finance a multishot PCP

I can't decide between S410, Webley Raider 10, Falcon Raptor or the HW100S which is just so damned heavy it puts me off........ :good:

Interesting stuff.

Particularly the insignificant difference betwean the Accupels & Premiers in terms of price versus performance i.e one being double the price of the other & nothing to tell betwean them.

Those AA Hunters seem to have the right balance of accuracy & power for some general varmint dispatching. Mind you, I don't view them as a true pointed pellet on account of being a bit blunt-nosed.

Must have cost you a small fortune, but now you can make an informed choice based on price, performance & purpose.

Okay, now it's the turn of the Weihrauch... HW77k. 6 months old, around 2000 pellets, Chambers Ultra kitted ..... Heavy, loud, kicks like a mule but you just have to admire the build and the accuracy...

Highest overall score to lowest. Top 26 of 52 but I havn't tested them all through this gun

RWS Hobby flat, Dynamic SN2, H&N Hollowpoint, SMK Spitfire Point, Bisley Practice, Webley Harrier, Milbro Jet, Milbro Caledonian, AGS Elite dome, Bisley L/R Gold, Weihrauch F&T, Marksman Dome, Eley Wasp 5.5, Defiant 5.48, H&N Field target tro, Webley Mosquito, Crosman Premier, Defiant 5.50, BSA Elite, Air Arms Hunter, Daystate FT 5.51, RWS Superfield, Webley Lazadome, Bisley Pest Control, Weihrauch Magnum, Bisley Magnum.

I'll use the Hobby Flat for target and the Dynamics for the Maggies. This gun hated the Spitfires, failing to hit a 3" target at 15m.They were all over the place on an A4 Sheet. I was also surprised that it didn't like the Defiants.

The Dynamic SN2's are Brilliant in all 3 guns but failed the Webley on accuracy. The Milbro Jets are also a really good Budget pellet if you like points, the Caledonians if you want domes or for cheap plinkers.

I wont do any more till I get a PCP but I might put some through my lads 220 just to see whats best for him.

I look forward to a bit of plinking without messing with the Chrony. :o

I hope I have helped prove the point that all guns are different and that there is only one way to find the 'right' pellet. I would like to test similarly used 77's or 400's so that we could show the difference between the same type of guns.

Right, where's the Magpies !!!!! :good:
