Vagabond
I've been out scouting for new permissions recently and not far from me, I found a nice little place. The rabbits (23) in one field caught my attention and I lost count of them in the other fields, not to mention the swarms of feeding pigeons. So, I decided to put on me Sunday best and went knocking on the door. I was greeted by a lovely elderly couple, who were very pleased that I called. After introduced myself and explained the service I was offering and they were only too happy to discuss the vermin problem. We chatted for about 20mins and they were keen for me to start shooting. By this time I have a cold sweat and my trigger finger is starting to itch. We discussed the rabbit explosion they were experiencing and how the pigeons are freely feeding in their fields. After about half an hour, the lady of the house asks me if I would mind shooting some duck? To which I naturally reply "I would be delighted!", rubbing my hands muttering roll on september. We walk around to the other side of the house and there stands a magnificent 3 acre tree lined pond, teaming with wildfowl. I'm standing there speechless mouth open, staring at the abundance of activity before me with a nervous twitch in one eye, thinking YES THERE IS A GOD!!!!! The old chap leans over and say "Damn Foxes! Been keeping me awake for ages. I haven't had a good nights sleep in months. Could I sort the little *****rds out while you're at it?" The only thing I can think of by this stage is JACKPOT! Everything I could possibly want in a single shoot. They were happy for me to return in 30min (10min home grab my gear and back), they would just like to let their Son know, who was supposed to be in charge of the farm. No problem it'll give me time to get the paperwork sorted out. Ah! It turns out that there is already some one, who is supposed to be taking care of the vermin. The Son has a shouting match down the phone and issues an ultimatum to the other guy saying that he has neglected his duties and if he wasn't there that afternoon he will loose his shooting rights. I thanked them left my details and left. Got home, feeling disappointed. Then I thought no stuff-it. I loaded all my gear in to the back of my car. Called into gun shop for some bits and went back to the farm. I drove by and parked on the verge. I wound down my window to listen and........Boom!.......Boom!! Damn! I've lost this shoot this time. Moral of the story! Look after your shoot because there is always someone waiting in the wings to move in!

new to the flock
I think that I would be calling back in and having a chat about sharing the shooting rights to be sure that they were being covered and well looked after. Vagabond
Oh don't worry I'll be back. I want to let the dust settle first before I go back to discuss sharing. I'd hate to be on a shoot with some one who is p****d off with me. You never know what his aim is like!

Vagabond
Had a call today from the present shooter and he's agreed to let me come and help with some vermin..... Very decent of him. Has cost me a bottle of Jack D's, but well worth it.
