keston
iam thinking of getting a 4.10 hushpower for night shooting to try and keep the noise down for nearby cottages, can anyone tell me the kind of range ill have for shooting rabbits, and the kind of cartriges best used subsonic or otherwise. Big_Sam
I expect normal 410 range. Its a full choke, so with a 16g load #6 you should be ok for 20yards I would say.
keston
sorry to sound a bit thick here but is that using 3 inch cartriges as the only 4.10 ones they sell at our local shop are 2and a half inch 14 gram sixes.
Big_Sam
Well they will probably be ok then. After all it has the same power as a 12g, just no so many pellets. So shot placement is more important.
Alycidon
A moderated .410 is a handy tool for ferreted rabbits as these are always very close but using it at night with a lamp you will struggle to get close enough to kill cleanly. Been there got the tee shirt many years ago. A moderted shotgun of a bigger caliber would be better but the best tool is a moderated .22LR rifle using sub sonic hollow points, ideally a semi auto. That is good for 70 yards, maybe a bit further in ideal conditions or from a rested position. A
keston
ok thanks for your replies ,sounds like 20 bore with moderator would be best choice as only have s/g cert.
beatingisbest
You can kill rabbits cleanly out to 35 yards with a .410, ive shot rooks and squirrels stone dead aswell. They will whack any vermin down clean that you would shoot with a 12b, rabbit size and smaller though.
