Baldrick
I dropped my (unloaded) CZ .22 onto a concrete standing, purely by accident. It got a hefty jolt, landing buttplate-down. The stock has cracked through horizontally at the back of the inlet, i.e. right underneath the rear of the bolt, at the top of the hand. It's now in two parts: a 2"x1" chunk of wood and the rest of the stock. The actual bedding of the action appears intact, so the stock itself could be salvaged. Are replacement CZ stocks (for a left-handed model) readily available, or would you recommend a gluing job? I need the CZ back up and running pretty quickly, so I'm reluctant to wait for Edgar Brothers to source me a factory stock.
Dunkield
I would glue it and carry on using it, Martin Cavie can tell you what is the best stuff to use. Decent glue will be stronger then the wood itself. I had a split (not a complete crack like yours) in my CZ stock and opened that up and poured superglue into it, it has been absolutely fine since. Aftermarket stocks are normally pretty dear and being a cack will make it harder to find, I would guess. Staffs synthetic may do one? webber
I have glued a couple of stocks over the years, but dont claim to be a specialist. I used Cascamite, waterproof. The trick was to ensure a very thorough mix to eliminate any lumps at all. I then put the glue into a syringe with a large needle, the type used to refill ink jet cartridges. I then prised the crack open with a slim hard wood wedge, so as to open the crack around 1mm, the squirted the glue in, ensuring that the glue went everywhere. I then removed the wedge, and clamped the stock back together using soft rope made into a turnkey. Then removed the surplus glue, before it sets. webber
Baldrick
Thanks for the pointer, both of you. I'll buy some Cascamite and glue it.
codling99
if the two parts are big enough, you could drill holes in them and dowel them too for added strentgh
