Stock Extension

The gun I inherited is a Eugenio Conteti, and was made about 45 years ago in Italy.

It's a 12g O/U all rounder with 28" barrels and twin triggers.

The stock is a little short and I currently have a leather sleeve extender which seems to fit alright but I'm not sure if it is the right size for me..

How can I find a stock extention that fits the gun, and how can I check that I get the right size for me?

Thanks for any advice guys....

Ideally go to a Gunsmith who can fit the gun to you (bend and / or raise it if needed) and extend again if needed with Ebonite, Wood or an aftermarket pad depending on your want. If he is doing the work he should charge nothing for working out what you need.

Correct gun fit requires correct stance and mount.

If you are not confident that the stance and mount are correct, there is no point in mucking about with the pull length until they are sorted out.

See a good coach.

With the feet and balance right, gun in the right part of the shoulder, and the face correctly on the comb, there should be 2" between the back of the thumb knuckle and the tip of your nose.

Fast mounters may prefer shorter, down to 1 1/2". Trap/fully mounted shooters may go for longer - 2 1/2".

When the pull is sorted ( use a Beartooth but pad with adjustable shims, get them on EBay), then sort out comb height. The pupil should be 1/8" clear of the back of the rib when viewed down the ( empty!!) gun. Use the £1-00 coin test. If a coin blocks you view of the bead when your face is on the comb, its to low.

See the Clay Target Shooter's Handbook for comprehensive info a diagrams about all of this.
