On the 22nd Feb I sent off my shotgun cert and applied for co-terminus cert's to get a rimfire. I know the differant county's take differant times dependant on their local police efficiency but so far Im really impressed with Devon & Cornwall again. He came to the house today to inspect the cabinets and said I should expect to have my FAC within the next 2-3Wks. So overall quite a quick turnaround. I will post up when it arrives. Quite often see bad publicity for the police when dealing with cert's so I thought id post up something positive :good:

I think that the problems that people have are generally associated with the time of the year that they apply, if you apply for just a variation in the busy period, it will probably go to the bottom of the pile. Consider that when the law was changed, from Post office licenses to SGC, everybody that owned a shotgun applied for a certificate, these will therefore all be renewed at the same time, hence a busy time at HQ for a month or so. Having said that, in my experience, Essex Police have always been prompt, I have had a variation OK'd and returned in the same week.

A bit off thread but today I phoned Devon and Cornwall about which calibres are cleared on a 250 acre patch of woodland I hope to shoot next season, the helpfull, relaxed and friendly way in which I was treated was a welcome supprise.

Yes, I think that it's the old story, only takes one or two with a bad attitude to colour everyones thinking. You tend to expect the worst.

It's nice to hear that some forces are keeping up with demand. Here in West Mercia Constabulary's remit unfortunately the wait is anything up to 11 months according to Sir Michael Spicer our local M.P.

I applied for my FAC (and asked for my shotgun cert to run co-terminous) in September 2007. They cashed the cheque in early October and I am told I will have a long, long wait. Sportsman Gun Centre and Litt's tell me that most Police Authorities are manging to turn new applications round in about a month.

Sadly the new National Firearms License Management System is creating huge backlogs and West Mercia have lost most of their office staff because of their problems with the new system. Chris Himsworth the department head has been off with "stress" because of the lack of support his department has been given. I am assured (by Peter Wright ACC territorial Operations) that they have taken on three extra full time staff and that things will get quickly better once they are fully trained :lol: They have had two folks start and they quit on the same day!!!!!!!!

Never mind, I will keep exercising my legendary huge reserves of patience;

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH :o

Well I am happy to report that my certificates were back today with both .22 & .17HMR with mods as I requested. So I sent off on the 22nd Feb and they had it back to me by the 14th March. Thats 23 days turnaround inc weekends. Hats off to Devon & Cornwall Police :no:

Just ordered my rifle from my local dealer he is assembling it for me and zeroing it in for me I collect it on Sunday. Well chuffed :/
