NeVeTaS
Are they a good reliable gun? Any differance between the 390 & 391 ? Anything in that price range that would be a better alternative? (Must be S/A FAC) Cheers Steve
ernyha
Two years ago I traded my 304 for a 391 camo 28"multi -choke.I can honestly say that it is the best gun I have owned and I have been shooting for 40+ years. The only drawback as with all gas operated autos is the laborious cleaning needed after a shoot. If I think we are not going to have a hectic day I use my Browning 425 game, but if there is a hint of a good shoot it is the 391 every time.I dont always guess right as you can imagine and sometimes end up cleaning the 391 after just a few shots and on other times end up with a sore shoulder after getting a bonus day but have taken the 425 along. :Best of luck.) NeVeTaS
Cheers ernyha sounds good to me! Is there any major changes between the 390 & the 391?
ernyha
On the 391 there is a recoil damper to cushion the bolt when forced back after firing and a spring spring relieve valve under the barrel in front of the gas ports.these 2 items are to allow heavier loads to be used without wrecking the gun prematurely. The damper also helps reduce recoil on the shoulder although this is not its main function.I dont think these items are on the 390. They were certainly not on the 304 which preceeded the 390.
NeVeTaS
Cheers for the info. If you had the choice of a 2nd hand 390, or a new Remington 11/87 what do you think is the 'better gun'?? Cheers Steve

NeVeTaS
Just put a deposit down on a 4 shot Beretta 391 uereka with synthetic stock. Picking it up Monday week, as they need to convert the magazine tube from 3 shot to 4 shot! I'm not looking forward to the cleaning!
ernyha
Steve, hope you get as much pleasure and satisfaction out of the 391 as i am getting out of mine. Good luck.
Tony
I have a 391 camo that I bought new last year. It has performed faultlessly. Like Ernyha pointed out, the downside is the cleaning but hey ho! goes with the territory. If the gun is to be used in the field, I would recommend the camo as it has no wood to rot as it has a synthetic stock and foreend. I think they do it in black as well now. Elma Fud
I bought a synthetic AL 391 at the CLA Game Fair this year. As yet I've not had a good day out on pigeons. However, I've had some good days decoying rooks, 5 outings and decoyed over 400 rooks, mainly on drillings and maize stubble. The gun comes to the shoulder well. Is well balanced. And because it is gas operated you dont get a sore shoulder or headache when firing off a number of cartridges. the gun is 'Poetry in Motion' 10/
ernyha
Elma, my experiencies with the gun,the same as yours.Just the cleaning at the end of the day is the only drawback. Small price to pay though for owning a fabulous gun.
